Airbagg was founded in 2019 by a scientist. He decided to pursue a new challenge, shortly after an unfortunate accident involving roentgenium and water.

A luggage storage service, in the form of a marketplace site that links customers to hosts is not a new idea. But there were no South African businesses in this space, and visitors to South Africa had very limited options when it came to handling their luggage.

To test the demand for this service, a Facebook page was set up, and a small marketing campaign was initiated. Our first hosts were signed up, two in Cape Town and one in Johannesburg. We discovered that there was a significant demand for the service, but then the pandemic hit. Like many businesses, Airbagg went into hibernation.

Come 2022, however, we have started seeing strong demand via our Facebook page, and this prompted us to develop an e-commerce web based application www.airbagg.co.za, which launched in October 2022.
